To track the circulation of English currency around the world. Any notes that you enter into the website should be used as normal. When a note is next entered onto the website you will be able to see how far it has travelled and where it has been.
And because we can.
The Bank of England has been issuing bank notes for over 300 years and as of 2002 there were over 29344 million bank notes in circulation.
The Bank of England maintain a website providing information about bank notes.
It is an offence, under the Currency and Banknotes Act 1928 (section 12), if "any person prints, or stamps, or by any like means impresses, on any bank note, any words, letters or figures".
The Bank of England strongly disapprove of any practices that may tend to disfigure banknotes, and attempt to discourage actions that, in any way, will effectively shorten their lives.
Despite any additional wording or printing that may subsequently appear on a banknote, it remains legal tender. Should people have any problem in spending defaced notes, a high street bank will normally exchange them.
This website, and its owner, does not recommend, suggest or advise users to write anything on a bank note.
In the course of your day to day life you will eventually be given a bank note. These bank notes can be entered onto this website. We would prefer it if you didn't go to banks or cash points and withdraw all your money just so that you can enter notes in bulk into the website.
Bank notes should be acquired legally.
Please enter each note only once unless you have received the note from someone/thing else a second time.
Please ensure that the information you enter into the website is correct before clicking the submit button. You will not be able to change the details of a bank note or your location once it has been entered into the system.
We recommend that you enter notes into the site that you have on your person at the time of logging them with the website. This will increase the accuracy of our tracking and statistics calculations. If you want to enter notes that you received while you are on holiday then please find a cybercafé rather than keeping a note of the serial numbers.
Please enter notes with the post code or country where you are at the time you enter the note. Please do not enter notes with the post code/country of where you picked them up or where you intend to spend the note. This leads to errors with the distance and statistics tracking.
We would advise you not to take a wad of notes back to a bank just after having entered them into the website for the sole purpose of fast note distribution to others. Remember that if you hand someone a bank note you can also tell them about the website.
We reserve the right to delete, modify or suspend any account, note, or history item.
Distance calculation is approximate. If you can't provide a UK postcode then the location of the note is taken to be the capital city of the country you select when entering the note.
You must have cookies enabled in order to login to the website.

Oh dear.
If you still have the note then I suggest that you enter it a second time. While this pushes up a notes hit count it will have the effect of logging it against your username. In the future I might write a tool to automagically link you to notes. If you no longer have the note then please do not enter it again.
We have produced a range of adverts that you can put on your own web pages.

FindLizzy.co.uk makes it easy to find out where your money has been and where it has ended up. Entering a bank note's serial number creates a history log which follows the bank note around as it is passed from person to person.
